Wax Is Self-Sustaining Every hive box yields between 40 to 60 pounds of honey. All this honey means you'll have a bounty of beeswax. With your own wax, you'll be able to recoat your hive. Thick Wood for Insulation Hoover Hives exterior dimensions are cut to the Industry Standard. Hive parts are completely interchangeable with any other standard Langstroth hive. While the Industry Standard would suggest the wood to be a minimum of 1/2", Hoover Hives uses 3/4" thick wood to provide your bees with insulation during both winter and summer. With insulation, your bees won't have to spend time controlling the temperature. Instead, they can spend time collecting pollen & nectar to produce honey.
